Ayahuasca on the Global Front: News, Updates, Trials and Steps Forward
The legal framework with Ayahuasca has changed immensely in the past two years around the world. In Europe, Italy and France have scheduled Ayahuasca as a controlled substance.
Most recently, Jose Campos, an Indigenous medicine facilitator from Peru is facing trial for bringing Ayahuasca into Mexico for healing ceremonies and has been imprisoned since being detained on March 9, 2022. This occurred after the Mexican government assigned the Marines as the head of the Customs agency. Since Jose Campos's detainment, 7 other individuals have also been imprisoned for carrying Ayahuasca into Mexico, 3 of whom are also Indigenous. This important trial will set precedence for the rest of the individuals in custody, as well as the direction of legality of Ayahuasca in Mexico.
With these recent changes and charges, Natalia Rebollo, head attorney for Jose Campos' trial, as well as the coordinator of the Ayahuasca Defense Fund, a program of ICEERS (International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research, and Service), along with her colleague Jerónimo Mazarrasa, the Social Innovation Coordinator from ICEERS will be joining Salimeh Tabrizi, founding board member of the Psychedelic Association of Canada to discuss the most recent news on the legal cases of Ayahuasca as well as informing our community about the changes and steps forward.

Courtroom Drama: Therapsil - Taking the Government to Court to get Psychedelic Access for Patients
In a case reminiscent of David and Goliath, Therapsil, represented by lawyer Paul Lewin, is going to the Supreme Court on behalf of their clients to ensure vital access to psychedelic medicine for end of life patients.
Noted Canadian lawyer Paul Lewin has won many cases challenging drug laws in courts across Canada. His latest action is suing the government of Canada on behalf of Therapsil and its clients, to give end-of-life patients access to psilocybin without having to access this medicine through the many layered red tape of the Canadian government.
Also joining in this important conversation is Therapsil's Spencer Hawkswell and Human Rights Lawyer John Conroy (who also has many victories at the Supreme Court of Canada). Together they will update us on the progress of the groundbreaking case to get access to psilocybin for all Canadians.
Join us to show your solidarity with making psychedelic medicine a legal right for all in Canada!

Women Elders in Psychedelics: Science and Spirituality in Self-Discovery and Self-Care.
The internationalization of Ayahuasca and the current interest in entheogens and psychedelics for treatment and self-discovery bring challenges to professionals and participants alike. While licensed ritual use, research and clinical efforts are moving forward, there seems to be little knowledge available for the community at large regarding the experiences, and the potential awakening precipitated by non-ordinary states of consciousness (NOSC).
This presentation discuses the “maps” necessary for depth inner exploration, for these journeys require a broader cartography of the self and the unseen, transpersonal realms. We will address how in NOSC each person’s experience is unique, why issues such as boundaries, identities and ethics need specific attention, and how to wisely manage care of one’s body, soul, and spirit during the process of self-discovery.

Psychedelic Advances in the Treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder
MEAI (5-Methoxy-2-aminoindane) is a psychoactive molecule, exerting a euphoric alcohol-like experience & a reduced desire to consume alcohol. It shows a high safety profile in preclinical studies and a promising efficacy.
MEAI is believed to break the vicious binge-drinking cycle at the decision point to drink more alcohol, by potentially innervating neural pathways such as 5-HT1A that lead to “sensible behaviour”.
In this informational and education session, Adjunct Professor Mark Haden, VP of Business Development for Clearmind will discuss the history of MEAI and its classification as a psychedelic, the clinical trial pathway required for the molecule MEAI to become a treatment, and some of the preclinical data.

Harm Reduction
As interest in psychedelics has spiked in recent years, many people are referring to this boom as a “psychedelic renaissance”. Although psychedelics may have the potential to be an effective therapy for a variety of ailments, it is in everyone’s best interest to incorporate strategies for safe use, managed use, abstinence, non-judgement, and addressing conditions of use along with the use itself. This is where harm reduction, a set of practical strategies and ideas, comes in.
Join us for an informational webinar focused on understanding harm reduction and how it’s principals may be directly applied to psychedelic practices and therapy today! Our panel of professional nurses are ready to share their passion for harm reduction, why it is vital moving forward, and the current challenges with implementation.

Music and psychedelics - Part 1
Music! Humanity's muse. Nietzsche once said that "Without music, life would be a mistake."
Music has the power to make us laugh, cry, dance, and ponder deep philosophical questions. It moves our soul, heart, and body as nothing else can, and sometimes, all at once. Music connects humanity across culture and time. Sounds can reach deep down into us and help move trauma around and engage our cells in a symphony of healing and insights across our emotional, logical, and spiritual bodies.
The latest scientific literature is promising when it comes to pairing psychedelic therapy with music to help us feel better. Data and research papers are increasingly digging deep into the science behind the breakthroughs possible. Indigenous cultures are way ahead in that department and have understood the healing powers of sound for a very long time as music is a core element of plant medicine ceremonies and other spiritual practices.
Join us as we explore the fascinating world of music, sound therapy, and psychedelics in a series of webinars on the subject. In the first episode, we will talk about some of the science behind sounds and their ability to affect our cells and body, using sound and psychedelics in a therapeutic context, the emotional language of music, music in a shamanic context with plant medicines, and lots more. And of course, there will be live music!

We are here to engage the community on this important topic and to support the courageous trailblazers in this modern psychedelic sphere who want to help as many people as possible, guided by a vision and principles that go beyond business as usual.

Accessing Psychedelics in Canada: Exploring the Legal Pathways
From the conversation around psychedelics, their efficacy, the potential benefits and possible concerns, plus the ever-increasing number of people publicly talking about their own experiences, you might think that in Canada our drug policies and laws have changed and that psychedelics are now legally available. Actually, that is not the case!
Join us for a lively discussion about where we are at in Canada with making psychedelics and plant medicines legally accessible, and where it might go in the next few years. What are the opportunities, and what should we be wary of? Is the incremental approach the way to go, or something more strident? We are pleased to have four lawyers who are well versed in the law, and psychedelics in Canada review the options.
